Charging error regarding tax for childbirth expenses 出産費用に係る消費税の徴収誤りについて
Japanese government has implemented a tax exemption for medical expenses for childbirth since 1991. However, tax had been included in some invoices issued at our hospital. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you, and will make every effort to prevent a recurrence.
HOW IT WAS REVEALED
Due to a public announcement of a consumption taxation error at a medical institution regarding hospitalization for childbirth, we investigated and found a similar taxation error at our hospital.
ITEMS CHARGED WITH TAX
(1)Expenses for private room, garments, TV/refrigerator
(2)Expenses for diapers, garments for a newborn
APPLICABLE PERSONS AND AMOUNT OF REIMBURSEMENT
Patients whose accounting data exist;
Obstetrics/Gynecology: October 2013 – December 2021
Pediatrics: December 2013 – December 2021
*Since December 2021, tax has been exempted.

Refunds will be made retroactively 20 years in accordance with the statute of limitations under the Civil Code. Since it is difficult to confirm accounting data for the periods of November 2002 – November 2013, please call us for confirmation and a refund based on receipts.
REFUND METHOD
We will send a document to eligible persons who are confirmed by accounting data.
PREVENTION OF RECURRENCE
In the event of revisions to laws and regulations, we will thoroughly check the content and strive to prevent recurrence.
